I graduated in the summer of 2021 from Newcastle University Business School, with a BSc in Marketing and Management. Whilst loving the Newcastle city life, I am very happy to be back home where I grew up, on the outskirts of Cambridge. I really enjoy spending time with my friends as well as going to spin classes and secretly binge-watching TV series on the sofa with my three dogs.??

What is your role at Owlstone Medical and how does it support the company mission??

In my role as Marketing Associate I assist with a variety of tasks across the Marketing team, to support the company’s mission to save 100,000 lives and $1.5 billion in healthcare costs. Our mission is incredibly important to our marketing as it guides our strategy and objectives. I also handle website enquiries, and more recently I’ve taken on the administration of events, including our webinar series and the annual Breath Biopsy Conference.?

What do you enjoy most about your work??

I love the diversity. Having a variety of tasks helps keep me productive and prevents the work from feeling repetitive. I have been at Owlstone for just over six months and my role has already developed a lot. I have taken on new responsibilities, such as internal events, which I did not think I would have much of a grasp on so soon. I am really excited to continue and develop in this area.??

I would also like to highlight the culture at Owlstone. The marketing team is incredibly supportive and friendly, and the wider company has a community spirit where every opinion is valid and important.??

How has Owlstone supported you as a new graduate??

Owlstone’s support has been great – I am currently enrolled on the graduate scheme that runs over a two-year period. This has involved training in general areas like example leadership and team working, alongside covering topics more specific to the company. I’m really looking forward to our session on Product Management!??

These sessions have been brilliant for my personal development, something valuable to graduates starting out on their career journey, but they’ve allowed me to develop relationships with colleagues at similar levels across the company. Getting stuck into the graduate scheme and meeting new people has helped me feel settled at Owlstone and make great new friends. My first six months flew by!??

Could you tell us a little about what Owlstone has planned within the events program this year??

With international travel hopefully being less restricted, we are excited to start going to in-person events again! After joining online last year, due to the pandemic, we’re aiming to attend the ATS Conference in person in San Francisco this May, as well as a number of other events across the US. We will also be heading to Barcelona for the ERS International Congress in September – where global respiratory experts will present and discuss the latest scientific and clinical advances across the entire field of respiratory medicine.?

Our event program this year is full of our own events too, including our webinar program and our flagship event, the annual Breath Biopsy Conference (BBCon). We are looking forward to a busy year, meeting many new and familiar faces in-person again.??

What are you most looking forward to working on in 2022??

I am really excited for 2022. With recent changes to my role, #BBCon22 is on the horizon, with planning already underway. Taking more of a front seat in organizing an event and seeing a fantastic conference play out will be a new experience for me. This year’s hybrid event will be held 1st to 3rd November and consist of two days live in Cambridge, followed by an online day, allowing more people from around the world to tune in and hear about the latest advances in the field!??

Owlstone Medical is expanding – we’re currently recruiting for both permanent and short-term roles. If you’d like to join Caitlin and the rest of our talented team and help us save 100,000 lives and $1.5B in healthcare spending, then view our current vacancies.?View our current vacancies.
