Meet the Assistant Producer: Annie Woodman
History Hit
Bringing you the stories that shaped the world through an award-winning podcast and on-demand history channel.
We are lucky to have so many fantastic team members across the company at History Hit.
But what is it like in their different roles, and what have they learnt about the industry along the way? In our Meet the Team series we get to know people from each department and provide insight into how our award-winning history content gets made.
Annie Woodman is a producer for the SVOD team, working with our presenter hub, who are at the heart of History Hit's original documentaries. Annie describes how there's not really a 'typical' day in production, and shares an intriguing fact about prehistoric Orkney she learnt on one such day...
Sum up your role in one sentence.
Working with our amazing in-house presenting team to create content for our SVOD channel.
Take us through a typical day in your role.
The classic, everyday is different... Some days I'll be on shoot making a documentary for our channel, others I'll be working from home or at the office developing new ideas with the team and laying all the foundations needed to make one of our brilliant films.
What are the most enjoyable and challenging parts of your role?
Most enjoyable: the ability to have a job where I get the opportunity to learn something new everyday.

How did you get into the role?
I started with a history degree and then did lots of other work across a variety of sectors, realised I wanted to go back to my history roots and did a masters which led me to becoming a researcher in my previous production company and stayed there gaining amazing experience until I saw a job which combined my two loves, media and history - History Hit!
What is the most interesting or surprising thing you’ve learned working at History Hit?
That a lot of prehistoric Orcadians (people from Orkney) were lactose intolerant...
Any advice for someone looking to get into your field?
Be curious, try everything you can as you never know where you’ll end up.
Who is your History Hero (and why)?
Dervla Murphy, the travel writer who solo travelled from Ireland to India on a pushbike in the '60s (and later the world!). She was a courageous adventurer who deeply embedded herself and cared about the places and people she visited.
