Meet Artem: Every Challenge is an Adventure

Tell us about your journey to intern at Edifecs.

I am from Ukraine and up until recently I lived and studied at Kyiv National University. I have always wanted to become a software engineer and long wanted to move to the USA to be able to develop and use my knowledge here in the IT center of the world.

As it turns out, my dreams were shifted in an unexpected way.

?In February 2022 the Russian military invasion of Ukraine began. As a result, my studies were suspended for an indefinite period. It had a terrible impact on all Ukrainians, and for me I was faced with complete uncertainty about my future. I didn't know how and when I would be able to finish my education. Approximately one month before my long-awaited graduation I found myself with nothing and I relocated to stay family in Washington.

?At that moment, I was very lucky to stumble upon the internship opportunity that Edifecs offered.

It was an opportunity to gain experience in the US and in IT. Finally, this past summer my fascinating story of working for Edifecs began.

Thank you for sharing your story. From your Edifecs internship, what were the skills/knowledge you obtained?

During my internship I gained solid experience with AWS technologies, Python scripting, and more. Now it helps me in my job search, and I can use the acquired knowledge in my side projects. But the most important experience I got was communication with the team and interaction with other employees in Edifecs. I learned to feel at ease when doing something new.

The people at Edifecs taught me that it’s okay to not understand something and that you can always ask for help.

It was such a comfortable atmosphere that allowed us to do our work with the team, have fun, and do our best.

?Share your favorite Edifecs internship memory.

?There are so many. If I had to pick one; I really enjoyed going to lunch with my mentor and talking more about career paths. It was so insightful. Since we were working remotely, the chance to meet the team in person and have a fun lunch together was great.

Looking back, what sets Edifecs apart from other internship opportunities?

?The people and company culture. Edifecs is very flexible, and interns are in charge of their own schedules to accommodate work and life. Plus, the intern program includes guest speakers with helpful career advice and workshops.?

?What are you up to these days now that you finished your internship?

?I resumed my studies and graduated with my degree in Computer Science! I am in the midst of my job search and also enjoying my time. Right now, my friends and I are developing video games and this year we plan to release our first project.

What advice do you have for future interns at Edifecs or actually at any company?

?Do not be afraid to start something new and do not be afraid to take on challenging tasks. You can always count on your teammates and more experienced co-workers who will always help you.

What I learned from all this is that every challenge is an adventure.
