Meet Alison Walker, Our Next Featured RSW!
Hi, everyone.
Winter is here and I hope all goes well for you and your family this holiday season. This month, I have another amazing associate to share in the December edition of my Rehabilitation Support Worker Profile blog.
Thank you to everyone who liked, commented on, and shared my previous article about Emily Smith!
For those of you who haven’t read my other RSW profiles, here’s some background. I’ve decided to spotlight the amazing Rehabilitation Support Worker Associates whom we partner with at Bartimaeus Rehabilitation Services. They don’t often receive the public recognition that they deserve for positively impacting so many lives. Hopefully, these blog articles will change that!
Meet Alison Walker, Our Next Featured RSW!
It is a pleasure to introduce you to Alison Walker.
Alison is very proud to have been making a difference in people’s lives with Bartimaeus since October 2016. She developed excellent listening and communication skills from her experience in the customer service industry.
Alison is certified in First Aid, CPR and completed her Ontario Brain Injury Association “Brain Basics” Certificate.
Meeting and working with clients on an up-close and personal level is Alison’s passion. She believes every individual is unique in their own way and loves being a part of their rehabilitation back into their everyday life. Alison takes delight in seeing the impact of helping her clients develop and grow.
Alison describes what she does as an RSW very fulfilling. She told me that she wouldn’t even call it a job since it doesn’t feel like one!
She treats her work as a daily activity she joins in with each client and feels their accomplishments at the end of the day.
Alison doesn’t want to brag about her sense of humour and quirkiness… ok, she DEFINITELY DOES!
We won’t hold that against her.
Alison enjoys making her clients laugh and always tells stories to brighten their day. Her clients enjoy her reliability, trustworthiness and down-to-earth approach. Did I mention that Alison is a great cook? One of her clients loves the lunches that she prepares, and they have lunch together almost every day!
When Alison is not busy supporting clients, she loves spending time with her dog Duke! He’s an 8 and a half-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. Her latest addition to her “pack” is a 12 week old Harvey! Alison LIVES for the winter - how fitting since she is our December feature!
She enjoys snowshoeing, hiking, snowmobiling and other winter activities. When summer rolls around, Alison loves swimming and spending time doing outdoor activities such as fishing, golfing, and traveling!
Before her work with Bartimaeus, Alison was focused on becoming a Police Officer. It was only after she met Bartimaeus’ RSW, Ann-E, that she changed gears and decided to pursue a career in a helping field. They were in need of an RSW in New Liskeard, where Alison lives. This motivated Alison to do her research, spend time on her courses and eventually met with me.
Alison is grateful for Ann-E who moved her life in a positive direction. She wants to do the same for her clients.
Thank you, Alison, for the hard work and dedication you show to all of your clients.
You are a key part to our team and I look forward to continually seeing the difference you make to the lives you touch.
