Meet - Alisa Khieu
Meet Alisa Khieu aka @Ocarune, this week's Devpost Summer Community Spotlight Feature:
Tell us about your journey as a Devpost user
I originally attended UC Berkeley as a Cognitive Science Major and attended my first hackathon there! Devpost is honestly my go-to when I want to challenge myself to do something cool or ambitious. There are always new developer competitions, some of which I can do over a weekend.?
How has being a Devpost user helped you?
Even though I work full-time now in the game dev industry, hackathons help me a lot. It helps me practice prototyping quickly and presenting my work. I even did hackathons on Devpost full-time for about half a year (when on break from the workforce). This was a really exciting and fun time!
By the time I joined a company again after competing in a ton of Devpost hackathons, I felt really empowered with my learnings, upgraded portfolio, and awards. It gave me confidence, especially when it came to things like negotiation and knowing my worth. It's kind of easy to have imposter syndrome in tech because there's always so much you don't know, but the difference is that prototyping rapidly for hackathons on Devpost made me think, "Yeah, I don't know a lot of stuff, yet I can learn and scrap anything together pretty quickly!"

What has been your favorite hackathon experience?
Team Liquid PrideMakers hackathon! It's awesome when an eSports organization hosts hackathons, especially with lots of workshops and fun events so it's not just about competing but also about social good and learning.
“I love hackathons because they give me a motivating deadline and a polished side project to my portfolio, and Devpost is honestly the most reliable place to be up to date with hackathons (no, I am not sponsored haha).” - Alisa Khieu
