Meet Aleisha Pengelly, Audiologist at Hearing Australia
Aleisha Pengelly, one of our excellent audiologists, sat down with us to share more about her role and best memories from working at Hearing Australia.?
At the start of her career, Aleisha recalls working alongside a supervisor, learning and laughing together as she found her feet. As she became more independent, a typical day would involve diving into client appointments and completing a mix of assessments, fittings, follow ups and any extra tasks that popped up. Some days also included driving to visiting sites to provide additional support and services to regional communities. Towards the end of the year, Aleisha began paediatric play audiometry appointments. She describes a typical day as surprisingly varied and constantly evolving, though always challenging and engaging.
Having the opportunity to help clients with their communication needs is a key motivating factor for Aleisha in her role. Knowing there are people in the community who are looking to her for advice, answers, support and direction is what she considers extremely rewarding. This sense of responsibility and community participation is what brings her back everyday. She also acknowledges the supportive network of clinicians who continuously challenge her to grow and learn, helping her become the best audiologist she can be.
Aleisha describes a client interaction as one of her favourite memories from working as an audiologist. This particular client had been emotional during their appointment and shared her full story and experiences, detailing how her new device addressed the impacts of her Single Sided Deafness with great benefits. Hearing a client so positively impacted by a choice they made together was a standout moment Aleisha felt privileged to be part of.?
Alongside this, her favourite memories from everyday work life include lunchtime Jenga, coffee walks, the mini office Olympic Games and working alongside colleagues.
Starting her career with Hearing Australia, Aleisha shared how she was provided with a safe and nurturing environment to grow, learn and develop, both personally and professionally. She described receiving unwavering support and exceptional training amongst a client-centred culture. With no two days being the same and abundant opportunities for career progression and training with Adult and Paediatric clients, she would strongly encourage others to pursue their first year as an Audiologist at Hearing Australia. She considers it a privilege to work for a company that prioritises client centred care, with the ability to provide services in metropolitan, regional and rural communities across Australia.
We’re so glad to have Aleisha as part of our team and can’t wait to follow and support her career as she progresses.
