Meet Aggrey Sang

Get to know Aggrey Sang, Regional Sales Manager for East and Central Africa. Learn about Aggrey’s experience learning about libraries in Kenya and surrounding countries and find out what he does to unwind after a busy week.

What is your role within EBSCO?

I’m the Regional Sales Manager for East and Central Africa, based in Kenya. I am part of the EBSCO Sub-Saharan Africa team.

Explain your job as you would to a 5 year old.

I sell books and magazines to libraries for people to read on their computers and phones. I also sell the software that allows people to access these books and magazines from the library.

What is the best aspect of your job?

Helping people gain access to information.

How long have you worked at EBSCO?

I have been with EBSCO since November 2023.

Can you share any unique insights regarding the region that you work in?

Institutions with physically small libraries and institutions starting new academic programmes can ensure their patrons have all the resources they need through access to research databases. EBSCO’s research databases provide libraries with a dynamic collection of thousands of e-books, journals, magazines and other useful content. A multidisciplinary database, such as Academic Search Ultimate, provides thousands of international, subject-specific full-text journals covering virtually all subject areas and academic disciplines, while a subject-specific database, like MEDLINE Ultimate, offers the largest collection of active full-text biomedical and health journals available to ensure researchers and medical students have access to essential information.

Did you attend college/university? If so, what did you study?

Yes, I did attend university. I have a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Engineering and a Master of Communication Management.

What’s a challenge you’ve faced in your role, and how did you overcome it?

As I was previously working in the Telecommunications industry, I had a challenge understanding library systems and the various products and tools used by libraries. Before joining EBSCO, the last time I was in a physical library was in 2008. Fortunately, I had access to a digital library as I was studying my Masters. During my Masters, I was able to access library resources through OpenAthens and Shibboleth, and I became familiar with Blackboard as a platform to engage with course materials.

Following several months of online training during my onboarding process; exploring the resources available on EBSCO Connect; and later conducting customer demos, trainings and providing technical assistance, I have a better understanding of the products I’m selling. I’m excited to share my knowledge with my customers.

What’s your go-to productivity hack or tool that helps you stay organised?

This would be a combination of both NetSuite CRM and OneNote.

What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?

Huayna Picchu, in Peru.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy week?

A round of golf.

What is the best way to reach you?
