Medtech: Are Service and Transparency Your Big Advantages?

One of the big themes I’m noticing this week is the focus on efficiency.

Here’s how I’m seeing the conversations play out.

  • Patrick Jamnik and the Episurf team are focused on keeping orthopedic surgeons informed every step of the way when it comes to the order status of their individualized solutions for patients.
  • Medtech companies exploring AI solutions to improve care are tackling workflow issues to speed up care. This speed translates into real returns for patients. Think about cancer patients who receive a scary diagnosis but can’t move on to the next appointment for another month or two. Cancer continues to take root during these delays.

Can Healthcare Compete with Pizza Delivery?

In our?interview with Patrick, he joked that we can see exactly where our pizza order is on the Domino’s app, but healthcare is entirely opaque in comparison.

And yes, there are so many reasons why healthcare can’t be as straightforward as pizza delivery. But come on. We can improve.

One interesting tidbit I’ve picked up from user interface and product designers is that people carry expectations from one experience to another.

E-commerce sites are supposed to be fast and intuitive, thanks to what we’ve been trained to expect from Amazon.

Ordering processes are supposed to be transparent.

Appointment setting is supposed to focus on the most critical need.

Service and Transparency Are a BIG Deal in Medtech

Some brands build their entire value proposition around their excellent service.

Yes, they have a good product, and their products can compete on their own merits. But the real differences are the service and customer communication associated with the product.

Is your company prioritizing this type of experience? If so, you need to be shouting about that differentiation from the roof tops. People (customers, patients) are desperate to be able to speak to real humans when they hit a snag. They need to know they have?someone?who will help them see a problem through to the end.

There are lots of technological solutions to help speed up the process, but it still comes down to that human connection—even in big medtech.
