Medley Genomics: Propelling Forward

Well, the new year has started at a furious pace here at Medley Genomics and we are delighted to maintain the momentum we built in 2017, as an early-stage startup.

Two key milestones for us so far this year.

First, we received our notice of award from the National Cancer Institute Small Business Innovative Research program to allow us to add additional funds to our early-stage development. Entitled “Combining Next-Generation Sequencing and Advanced Algorithms to Elucidate Tumor Heterogeneity” this award will allow us to continue the development of an innovative computational approach to characterizing and assessing intra-tumor mutational heterogeneity from next-generation sequencing data derived from human tumors. We were delighted to receive this award as we know the level of excellence seen in NCI funded SBIRs and great to be recognized for the innovative approaches of Medley Genomics commercialization.

This momentum now positions us to grow the company. We will be hiring a full-time bioinformatics expert as well as a part-time software engineer as we continue to build market awareness and create our first minimal viable product, a cloud-based interface for delivering our software for customers to utilize in concert with their next-generation sequencing workflow in oncology. We welcome your inquiries into the position, the description of which will be posted on our MedleyGenomics.com website very shortly.

Secondly, and equally exciting for us, Medley Genomics was selected from an applicant base of over 200 start-ups, as one of the nine participants in the Philips HealthWorks Startup Program running in Cambridge MA, focused on Oncology. The program which began in February and runs for 12 weeks has us engaged in an intensive learning cycle with Philips, providing us with unparalleled access to experts from across their business.

You might ask “Why Philips”? Well, as Philips has transitioned to becoming a global health technology leader it has created an outstanding network of experts, healthcare partners, global innovation hubs and a world-class, healthcare-compliant technology platform. As part of their open innovation initiative, they are making these assets available to selected startups via their startup program that is run across the globe in key health technology developmental sites like Cambridge.

Most exciting from a Medley Genomics perspective is Philips’ deep knowledge of the molecular information systems required for physician decision making. With the Cambridge Philips HealthWorks Startup Program focused on Oncology: Precision Cancer Care, what better way for Medley Genomics to understand the physician/patient facing perspective that Philips offers during the course of the program! We hope that this understanding will allow us to truly envision and build a future where Medley Genomics can truly change the course of cancer care for patients by delivering individualized therapies and avoiding disease relapse. More to come as we continue our journey through the program.

All this in just the first two months of the new year!
