MEDITERRANEAN DIET AND MS

Diet may lower risk of cognitive impairment by 20%

Following a Mediterranean diet may lower the risk of problems with #memory and thinking skills associated with #multiplesclerosis (MS), according to a preliminary study released this week.

Researchers found that people who more closely followed the #polyphenol -rich diet – which includes a high intake of vegetables, legumes, fruits, and fish; healthy fats, such as olive oil; and a low intake of dairy products, meats, and saturated fatty acids – had a 20% lower risk of #cognitive impairment than those who did not follow the diet.

Previous findings suggest that the #Mediterraneandiet may be beneficial for reducing #MS symptoms due to its?#antiinflammatory components; however, research is limited.

The findings are due to be presented at the?American Academy of Neurology’s 75th?Annual Meeting next month.
