A Mediterranean Beach for Every Mood

For many, beaches are an important component of any vacation. Luckily for those traveling to the Mediterranean, this stunning region is home to some of the most incredible beaches in the world. From jaw-dropping scenery to wild parties and watersports, there’s a sandy spot fit for every type of traveler.

Isola Bella, Taormina, Italy?

Along the coast of Taormina is Isola Bella, a lush and rocky islet bursting with exotic plants. Like something out of a fantasy novel, a tiny pebble beach paves the way to the entrance of this picturesque oasis where adventurous travelers can explore paved walkways, learn about the history of the island, get lost in a mysterious labyrinth and more. And yes, for all my eagle-eyed pop culture fans thinking this spot looks familiar, Isola Bella was featured in season two of HBO’s hit show “The White Lotus.”

Zlatni Rat, Bra?, Croatia

Famous for its distinctive horn-like shape, Croatia’s Zlatni Rat beach is the perfect place the spend an afternoon with its vibrant blue waters and soft, golden-hued sand. Interestingly, Zlatni Rat is not man-made, instead, the beach is shaped by the wind and ocean currents, frequently changing shape ever so slightly every two to three years. In addition to catching up on some much-needed R&R, Zlatni Rat is a great spot to partake in outdoor activities like swimming, windsurfing, jet skiing, snorkeling and more.

Scala dei Turchi, Sicily, Italy

Adding an adventurous twist to the average beach outing is Scala dei Turchi, a striking natural area with layered cliffsides leading to a series of secluded beaches and coves. Formed over thousands of years, the cliffs are made from ancient sedimentary rocks whose white coloring makes for a dramatic contrast to the sparkling blue waters below.

Playa El Bajondillo, Málaga, Spain

An urban beach day awaits at Málaga’s Playa El Bajondillo, a bustling stretch of sand popular for sunbathing and snacking with rows of local taverns slinging fresh drinks and quick eats. As they stroll the shores, visitors will find no shortage of entertainment with activities like parasailing, diving, sailing and more at their fingertips.

Banje Beach, Dubrovnik, Croatia???

Popularized during its time on “Game of Thrones,” Dubrovnik has earned its place on millions of travelers’ bucket lists. The historic coastal destination dates to the 16th century and is best known for its distinctive Old Town with its medieval walls and red-roofed buildings. To experience Dubrovnik from a new perspective, beach-loving travelers can head to Banje Beach, an unexpected slice of paradise situated just outside the iconic city.

Red (Kokkini) Beach, Santorini, Greece

Situated on the southwest coast of Santorini is Red Beach, a dramatic natural area featuring red and black sand composed of volcanic rock from the neighboring Santorini caldera. Unlike any other beach most travelers have ever experienced, Red Beach attracts hundreds of visitors each year who come to snap photos, swim in the sea and lounge in the sun among one of the most remarkable backdrops Greece has to offer.

Navagio Beach, Zakynthos, Greece

Only accessible by boat, Navagio Beach is one of the Mediterranean’s most remote stretches of sand. In addition to its picture-perfect scenery, with its soft, yellow sand and rugged cliffsides,? there’s one distinct feature travelers are sure to quickly notice: a decaying shipwreck fixed directly on the shore. This strange attraction has earned Navagio the nickname “Smugglers Cove,” a nod to the ship’s history as it was run ashore by officials in 1983 after the crew was caught smuggling booze and cigarettes.
