What have you heard about Meditating? Is meditating really life changing? From the array of benefits such as an energy boost, stress management, connect to yourself and more, have you given it a try? We hear a ton of information from all sources on different topics every day. I’m sure you’ve heard a bunch about meditating, some people have good things, and some have bad things. How do you decide if meditating is right for you? Let me go over some of the benefits of meditating before we figure out if you should try it or not.
Research has shown that people who meditate have an increase in mood, boosted immune system, decreased pain and inflammatory problems, increased critical thinking abilities, increase in physical grey matter in your brain involved with memory (hippocampus) and thought (frontal areas), and finally a decrease in anxiety, depression and stress in general.
Those are a ton of very good benefits. However, I wonder if we can find any negatives when it comes to meditation?
The only thing we could find regarding negatives to meditation was the people’s lack of understanding or belief in it. “I don’t have time to do it”, was a common complaint. Also, it’s hard for some to even give it a try because of dis-belief. However, these negatives are all from people and not meditation itself. There doesn’t really seem to be a downside to the actual practice of meditating.
It’s interesting that meditating can add grey matter to your brain. Also, if you have problems with stress, anxiety or depression, while meditating you can calm your mind and really connect with yourself.
When you meditate you can look at areas of your life in a new perspective and choose who you really are and what you really want. It isn’t something you will be amazing at right away. Like anything, it is a skill you can come to master.
Now the question is back to you. Do you think meditating is something you should try? Do you want to just try it, or would you like to practice it?
