Meditation means decluttering your mind. Our mind is is most fertile land which cultivates all plants, animals, stars, galaxies and what not!
I was introduced to meditation when I was studying? in Nagpur. The teacher first asked us to relax and focus on our each body part for top to toe and relax each part. When we relax each part and if there is any pain, then that pain used to get subsided easily. When this whole process goes on, we are guided by a voice and we just listen to that command. In a way, we are distracted from our thought process and just obey. As we keep on relaxing each and every body part, we tend to go to deep sleep. This process is well established but…There are large number of distractions now !! Emails, messages, reels and what not! So how to meditate in this age is a million dollar bet and I am going tell about meditation during work next..
The attention span of humans is very small, is a myth in itself. If you love your job at hand or storyline on TV, you attention span can be larger. People even say that GenZ has very little attention span i.e. 8.25 sec. All theses seems to be myth to me. Or , let us say , if it is true then how creation is happening even now! How productivity is increasing?
So let us come to our topic of discussion, meditation. I say if you are doing your work, say teaching in class or writing a code or cooking your meal and you get deeply involved in it, with all dedication, you will forget time elapsed. Can we call it a state of meditation?? One will say he / she is doing his / her job and not meditation. That’s exactly the point I am trying to put forth.

I define doing your assigned job, with 100% dedication and effort as meditation. Let us draw similar lines . As discussed in second paragraph, one has to relax, sit comfortably, focus on one body part, relax and move to next body part. Similarly, I will draw parallel with teaching, my profession. I make an eye contact with class, let the students relax, bring their attention to slides / board and keep on giving instruction. The students response is crucial and one can get it, if teacher gives his / her 100%. In a way the whole class while learning is meditating and understand the topic. This simily can be drawn by a cook, trader, or coder ….
So I mean to say , if you pay attention to all details, while on job, plan it properly and give your 100%, you are working as if you are under meditation. Recently I read a book by “ The art of fitfulness” by Nandan Nilekani . He says when you are doing your focussed work, switch off your emails, phones or keep them on silent mode. Create different logins on your device for different activities. So what I did is , I created a login for my research , teaching and personal matters. Once I am done with one activity, I logout of it and then login to the other. He has discussed many productivity activities in great details.
In short, we can do our assigned duty as if we are in mediation to increase the productivity.
This is a long writeup and will be extended further in next part.
