A Meditation For Getting Unstuck From Low Self Esteem

A Meditation For Getting Unstuck From Low Self Esteem

Like the mountain, stand firm in who you are. Let the winds of doubt pass by, for you are grounded in your own strength.” - Anoynmous

Low self-esteem has a way of sneaking into our professional lives. It tends to take the shape of always saying “yes”, avoiding big opportunities out of fear of failure, or driving yourself to exhaustion in pursuit of perfection.

Here's the thing though:

No amount of working harder or achieving more will unlock your self-worth. That’s the illusion low self-esteem thrives on—the idea that you have to earn the right to feel good about yourself. It’s incorrect!

The other thing about the low self-esteem mindset is that people with it, often, do not realise they have it. It has become so engrained, that it is the new normal. Feeling low and importantly, not being able to step out of it, is 'just the way it is'.

Is it though?…

Stuck with low self-esteem?

A student in a class I was teaching, in response to the question, "How do you manage yourself when feeling pressure?", responded that she procrastinates and tends to leave her class assessments undone until the very last minute, as though waiting initially for the state of panic sets in, at which point, she commences doing them!

When asked why she does that , she responded that that was the only way she knew how to cope with pressure each time she had an assessment to submit. She needed the pressure to cope with the pressure. She admitted the pain involved.

This meditation invites you to press pause...

It’s a chance to step back from the mental noise of self-doubt and reconnect with something deeper: your inherent worth – the mountain that you are. Not because of your title, your to-do list, or your next big achievement, but because you’re already enough, just as you are.?

When we begin to soften those inner voices of self-criticism, something shifts. We’re no longer chasing self-worth; we embody it. This is not about fixing yourself—it’s about letting go of the idea that you’re broken in the first place. That there is 'something' to fix.

Tip:

When low self-esteem arises, pause for a second.

Place your hand gently on your heart. Take three slow, deep breaths, and say this to yourself:

"I see myself with kindness. I am learning to love the person I am at this moment, exactly as I am, the way I am"

These simple words reconnect you with your inner worth. As you repeat the words notice any subtle disruption to the cycle of self-criticism. Perhaps you notice a gentle release, or not...?

Repeat the words whenever those familiar doubts creep in.
