Meditation

Find a silent peaceful place and sit down quietly to meditate. If we #follow a guru, then do as taught or #learn from a book or video, or App. #Repeat a sound, chant a mantra, or focus on a spot or on your breathing or heartbeat, etc.?Multiple #methods of #doing meditation. And surely there are thousands of us benefiting from this #activity. But at the same time, we are not the first generation of people who have been following these methods where we have to keep repeating and doing this again and again, but never really seeing a lasting change. It’s as if nothing sticks to the system. It’s temporary and so long as we keep repeating, we get the #benefit, which wears off soon, to be done again.

Are we thinking why?

Notice a number of words that have been used above which actually hold the answer to why this is not going to work. #follow, #repeat, #method, #doing these are the actions that actually prevent #meditation from happening. I say happening because we cannot #do meditation. So long as we are trying to do it (which is what we really do) and when there is effort, we are not giving space to the #mind for #intelligence to prevail. There is resistance and hence no #freedom in which #energy can be unleashed. Further, we tie up the mind with repetition and slot it into a method that it is supposed to follow. So again, where is the space and freedom for consciousness to flow? During our so-called meditation, the brain is busy fighting away thoughts and pushing aside distractions, and trying to stay in the mantra. So all that is happening is that we are tiring our brains with all this #activity. Hence, no wonder when we finish the 20-minute exercise the brain finally feels free and rested and peaceful. Next, we are back into our daily chores until the next scheduled meditation class or session where the same is repeated.

Meditation as mentioned above is not an active sport to be #done. It happens when there is #silence. And if and when it happens, 5 seconds of it is enough to transform. So, in order to go silent we have to #understand our #thoughts and activities that keep us busy. #See them for what they 'are' instead of crossing over to the other side and leaving it to pop it's head up again in some time. Issues we carry in our heads need to be resolved and extracted from the root. This can only happen when we #focus on #issues and not on how to overcome them or ignore them by focusing on things like being #positive or #happy or #good. We don’t want to be a #pendulum.?
