Last week, I came across an incredibly simple—and effective—meditation prompt.

It could be particularly useful for anyone who feels anxious, stressed, or out of sorts.

The suggestion goes like this: instead of meditating with the intention to calm down, simply find the quiet that already exists within you.

Do you see the difference? The first approach seeks to change you, whereas the second seeks to find the part of you that is already the way you wish to be.

This, of course, raises the question: is there always a quiet place inside you, even when you feel jittery and anxious?

Yes, there is.

I think back to one of my favorite activities, snorkeling. I love visiting a warm island where I can walk from the beach, through small waves, and into the water. When I float on the surface, I bob up and down; sometimes this constant motion becomes too much. Then I dive down lower, and it’s calm.

By the way, the last time I did this, in Antigua, I spotted a sea turtle. That was magical!

When I first tried this approach, I discovered that “finding the quiet” didn’t require me to fix or force anything. I simply shifted my attention from how my body felt to the pockets of calm that were already there.

Over time, you’ll recognize that this quiet place inside is like a loyal friend—always present and ready to be with you. By remembering to check in with it regularly, you will build a relationship with calm itself.

If you already do this, please comment on LinkedIn to help others who are just encountering this suggestion for the first time.

If you have questions, please feel free to ask them.

Peace dwells within. I receive it consciously. When I read John 15, it reminds me that when I abide in God’s love, I have everything I need, including peace. It’s not a perfect life, but it’s a life worth living to the fullest.

Lovely redirection to internal peace even from within challenging internal and external experiences of direct and indirect conflict. It is true. There is nothing more holistically embracing than internal known experiential holistic wholesomeness. I would add that when conflicts cannot be resolved, healing is disturbed, pain and injury continue, comfort and consolation evades, and when nothing seems to effect the desired change, our Triune God restores us to perfect healing because He is our Creator God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. In this is the assurance that nothing untoward within or upon creation can have a lasting adverse impact on us. Our God restores us. The healing as peace within is God - designed and God -given. Thank you Blessings in our Lord from South Africa

Nice. The challenge during anxious times is finding faith, that underneath all this there can be a place of quiet. I remember sleep - deep sleep when neither I existed, not the world but peace did - as is evidenced by its scent still lingering in the mind wanting us to go back to sleep. Usually the practice of finding faith in sleep must start during more peaceful times.
