Mediocrity Manifest

Mediocrity Manifest

Making a list of what you're "not great at" can feel scary. Here's why it's essential for your happiness.?

  • Vacation planning (I recently purchased plane tickets for the wrong month)
  • Yard work (killing bushes has become my specialty)
  • Holiday present shopping (gift receipts are a must)
  • Networking (I’m typically the first to leave an event)
  • Clothes shopping (I’ve got a lot of plaid)?
  • Driving? (I backed into a Mazda Miata a few weeks ago)
  • Creativity (the next unique idea might be my first)

?I sat down today to brainstorm a list of items where I ranked myself as “mediocre” at best. I got to 7 pretty fast and decided to quit.? ?

In today’s world, we feel the need to be amazing at everything. No one wants to admit that they’re not very good at playing golf, public speaking, etc.

The unnecessary anxiety caused by this pursuit of perfection keeps us from enjoying those areas where we excel.

Embracing our mediocrity creates the space necessary to find and master our true talents.
