Winners of the Medilink Midlands Business Awards 2024 Revealed!
The Medilink Midlands Business Awards was held on 9 May, bringing together over 200 guests and recognising nine of the most exceptional and innovative life sciences and medtech companies and industry collaborations from across the Midlands.?
In celebration of Medilink Midlands’ 20th anniversary, it awarded a £5,000 prize to the ‘winner of winners’ which was presented on the night to Cytecom , winner of the Delivering Innovation into Health and Care award, sponsored by HORIBA UK LIMITED .

In addition to this cash prize, Medilink Midlands long standing Patron TBAT Innovation Ltd, sponsors of the Innovation award category, offer ‘Winner of Winners’ Cytecom a dedicated workshop, to build out an innovation roadmap or to undertake a pre-grant application workshop.
In support of innovation development, TBAT Innovation Ltd has also offered all Innovation award category finalists a two-hour grant assessment session to help assess and define a winning application!

Medilink Midlands hosts regional life sciences showcase for City of Brampton, Canada delegation
Medilink Midlands welcomed the City of Brampton , Canada delegation to the Midlands on 15 May to showcase some of the leading life sciences and medtech facilities based in the region.
Delegates included the City of Brampton’s Clare Barnett , Director of Economic Development & International Relations, Fouzia Younas MBE, UK Consul General in Toronto, Vikram Khurana , CEO of Brampton start-up incubator, BHive , and Cia Prior , Associate Director of Marketing & Communications at BHive.
The delegation visited the Medical Technologies Innovation Facility (MTIF) at 英国诺丁汉特伦特大学 , 英国拉夫堡大学 and its National Centre of Sports & Exercise Medicine, and Charnwood Campus Science Innovation and Technology Park in Loughborough where they met with representatives and guests from each organisation, toured the world-class facilities, networked, and discovered what the Midlands has to offer.
Cohort 2 of the MeTAP Innovation Accelerator begins in Autumn 2024
Aimed at pre-startup companies, the MeTAP Innovation Accelerator will provide a detailed overview of how to set up a company within med-tech, life science and wellbeing sector.
The first of the six-session programme will take place in-person on 10th September, followed by four online sessions and ending with an in-person session on 15th October.
Updated arrangements enforced for LSI National Credentialing Register
The registration process for employees wishing to be part of the Medical Industry Association (MIA) system has changed as of 1 January 2024.
Previously, companies who wished their staff to be part of the MIA system were required firstly be on the LSI National Credentialing Register. Under these arrangements part of the fee invoiced by MIA was subsequently remitted to the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS), which manages the LSI Register. The remittance additionally covered the LSI registration fee.

DLRC achieves King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade
DLRC Regulatory Consultancy has been honoured with a King’s Award for Enterprise, recognising its outstanding performance in international trade - placing the firm among a select group of only 252 organisations in the UK to receive the accolade.
Specialising in pharmaceutical, biotechnology and MedTech sectors, including advanced therapies and AI innovations, DLRC offers regulatory affairs services to the life sciences sector. DLRC works with a range of clients, from top five pharma companies to SMEs and start-ups, to develop and execute innovative regulatory strategies from early product development to post-licensing activities for medicines and medical devices.
Mental Health Awareness
Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 that was dedicated to increasing movement YOUR way, this doesn’t have to mean excessive cardio. Instead think about small ways you can increase your time moving each day in the workplace, that will soon add up.
Recent evidence is showing that even if you exercise regularly, sitting down for long periods of time has a separate set of poor health effects.
This sedentary behaviour is increasingly common with many of us sitting at desks for extended periods of time. While evidence is limited, it is averaged that UK working age adults spend 9.5 hour a day sedentary!
Bursaries available for Help to Grow: Management cohort starting in June
英国诺丁汉大学商学院 will be running its next Help to Grow: Management cohorts in June and November 2024.
The Help to Grow: Management programme is a 90% government funded, 12-week course which includes over 50 hours of in-depth training.
The programme teaches strategies for growth and innovation, engaging with customers, building a sustainable and agile business, as well as financial management and responsible business practices. Programme delivery is through a series of webinars, case studies, peer group sessions and one to one mentoring, taking place through a blend of online and face-to-face sessions.

MTIF Microbiology Discovery event - Thursday 27 June 2024
The Medical Technologies Innovation Facility (MTIF) is to hold an exciting Microbiology Discovery Event this summer.
This event will provide an introduction to MTIF’s Microbiology capabilities and services. There will be live presentations, facility tours and the opportunity to ask questions of our experts.
Providing a wide range of testing, spanning from rapid antimicrobial susceptibility investigations to comprehensive studies into the way antimicrobials work (mode-of-action studies), it offers an efficient and cost-effective service for external clients from industry and academia.
Organisations needed for Medical Information Evening
Nottingham Girl’s High School is holding a Medical Information Evening on Monday 1 July from 6-8pm.
The evening is for students who are interested in applying for medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine and they will be given the opportunity to hear from Nottingham girl’s High School alumnae, universities, application support organisations and more.
Nottingham Girl’s School is looking for organisations who would be willing to deliver a short talk or session to students and parents about topics such as applying to study within these fields, work experience, interview preparation and more.
There will also be space for organisations to have information stands at the event.

East Midlands marketing and PR agency, V Formation Limited , has announced the appointment of Senita Vohra-Copley in the newly established role of Business Development Manager.
As Business Development Manager, Senita will support the agency's ambitious growth plans across its core sectors on a regional and national basis.
V Formation works with professional practices, family businesses, charities, and ambitious SMEs in the life sciences and high-tech sectors. It provides in-house marketing support, guidance on strategic direction and assistance with tactical marketing and PR.
Shakespeare Martineau expands East Midlands corporate team
Full-service law firm Shakespeare Martineau has grown its East Midlands-based corporate team with a trio of hires.
Joining the firm as an associate in Leicester is Raksha Agarwal. Solicitors Renee Freeman and Aryaan Bassi will both be based in Nottingham.
The appointments are the latest in a string of new hires as part of Shakespeare Martineau’s growth strategy. In the past six months, the firm has hired four new corporate partners, including Daniel Banton in the East Midlands – taking its total team headcount to more than 30. Shakespeare Martineau’s corporate and banking teams supported a record-breaking £4.6bn worth of deals in 2023.
Small Business Research Initiative announces new name?
The Small Business Research Initiative has been renamed to Contracts for Innovation.
The new name reflects that Contract for Innovation is able to offer fully funded research and development (R&D) contracts to innovative organisations of all sizes.
The name change signals that organisations of all types and sizes are encouraged to apply for public sector R&D contracts through Contracts for Innovation programmes. This includes private-sector companies, research institutes, universities and third-sector organisations.
Somnus Scientific has agreed a collaborative partnership with Life Science Group and Creonate Manufacturing
Somnus Scientific has joined up with Life Science Group (LSG) and Creonate Manufacturing for the next phase of its product development.
As part of this, its existing lab-based immunoassay (ELISA) method for measuring propofol will be developed into a rapid point-of-care immunoassay (LFT) test providing all the requirements specified by clinicians.
VACANCY: Research Analyst – Healthcare Technology at SEHTA
SEHTA is looking for a Research Analyst to join its Healthcare Technology team. Some of the key responsibilities include:

Health Innovation East Midlands (HIEM) has launched its Innovation Academy on a new platform – with brand new content for healthcare innovators.
The Academy offers free on-demand short courses designed for innovators to guide them through the innovation pathway to gain an understanding of how the NHS takes forward new innovative products to improve patient care and outcomes.
As the innovation arm of the NHS in the East Midlands, HIEM has in-depth knowledge of health systems and can help develop solutions that are commercially viable and transform care for patients.
