When it reopened on the 27th May 2017 one of the most significant pieces of Medieval wall art became available for people to look at again.
In 1999 Coventry City Council invited Channel 4's Time Team to come and help excavate the site of St Marys Benedictine Priory & Cathedral. The 1st dig looked at the Cathedral and the Chapter House. After 4 days they left Coventry to return 22 months later.
At the end of the second programme, a special highlighting some of the earlier excavation and Undercrofts uncovered a medieval wall painting that was painted on the blind side of the Chapter House.
What they uncovered was a scene of the Apocalypse and coming from Revelation Chapter 4. They identified the painting as St John the Baptist looking up through an open doodrway into heaven where he saw 3 of 24 elders looking upto the throne surround with 4 beasts with 6 wings on each beasy with eyes on the front and back of the wings.

7 年I believe the viewer in the painting is St. John the Apostle, not St. John the Baptist.
