Medication Adherence Stickers

Medication Adherence Stickers

Lately, I was in the hospital for a couple of days as my wife had to undergo surgery. During those couple of days, I was also quietly observing patients, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals working in the hospital.?

  • How doctors consult and diagnose patients
  • How doctors understand the patient's history and probe why they took certain medications just by reading articles on Google.
  • How they explain and educate patients about the problem and then how the treatment can be helpful.
  • How they counsel the patient for surgery, as most patients fear surgery. They think the doctor and hospital are trying to make some money by getting the patient to surgery room.
  • The entire process of registration at the hospital, getting the medication from the pharmacy, daily doctor rounds, and nurse visits to check patient health and give medication continues until the day of final discharge.?

What I realized is that except for the resident doctor or the operating doctor, nurses are clueless; the PRO is just concerned with getting a positive form filled out from the patient. Their is no awe inspiring experience.

One thing each and every one of my GAPSULE subscribers will agree on is that the entire experience is very demotivating, except for the moment when the doctors tell you, "You are alright and can get discharged."

Then comes the worst part, the mix match of taking a combination of medications, from tablets to syrups and any injections. At the pharmacy, the pharmacists keep markers to denote which medication is to be taken at what time of the day and if any medication is on an alternate day, they mark it accordingly. This kept me wondering why the pharma brand manager couldn't create stickers and share them with the pharmacists, who could then stick them on the tablets. I understand you cannot brand those stickers, but as a corporate entity, the pharma company can do overall branding.?

So while research online I came across a design studio NH1 Design and found this interesting concept of stickers on the medication package.

Breakfast - Before Food / After Food

Here is link to an interesting and innovative design for medication adherence created by NH1 Designs have attached the images. Thanks to Neha Tulsian ??♂? who leads the design studio for making something really innovative and impactful.?

Moses Gomes You have touched a topic very close to my heart. Medication adherence, an important element of patient-cenfered approach. My estimate is if patient adherence increases by ten percent, the industry growth rate of life-style products can be at least 25 to 30 percent. This is extrapolating a Capgemini report (I think it was of 2020) to the Indian environment. And the sticker concept to improve adherence is so novel, especially for India where reading and understanding a doctors Rx is truly an ordeal?? Thanks a lot for this enlightening post??
