People are always considering medical tourism as a great solution in regards to spending money on medical solutions. India is a great country for medical tourism because it has all the solutions you need at very affordable prices.

How popular is medical tourism in India? Where do most patients come from?

In 2015 alone the medical tourism sector in India was worth around $3 billion, and it’s set to reach $9 billion in 2020. Close to 500000 people came to India to acquire healthcare services in 2017, and the numbers are growing every year.

All Indian regions are targeted by medical tourism. Although it’s important to know that there are only a few experts in this field that really know the industry inside and out. But more and more medical professionals are adapted to offering top of the line solutions at affordable prices.

Even if medical tourism clients come from all over the world, there are some countries that stand out. These include Tanzania, Nigeria, Yemen, Maldives, Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and others.

Is the Indian government offering any assistance?

Yes, the government has expanded the e-tourism visa regime, and that also includes medical visas. You are allowed to use that visa to stay up to 6 months in India. This eases the travel process for medical tourists, and it’s a clear incentive to offer people assistance and support.

What are the benefits of medical tourism in India?

There are many benefits related to medical tourism in India. The first one is that you pay a much lower price when compared to many countries. Some estimates state that you pay 10 times less for the same treatment in India when compared to the US. Some of the more popular treatments that medical tourists tend to search in the country are eye surgeries, bone marrow transplants, alternative medicine services and others similar to that. Some even come to India for cardiac bypass.

On top of that, India offers a very good healthcare service quality. There are 39 JCI accredited hospitals in the country, with Chennai being a prime location for medical tourism in particular. Also, medical tourism is popular in India because English is widely used in medical facilities. Plus, reaching India is easy as you have quick flights to the country from anywhere in the world.

Promoting medical tourism

One thing to note about medical tourism is that marketing this industry is something that can be performed only by professionals. Patients are trying to cut the middleman and reach the hospital directly. If you are a medical professional that wants to provide high-quality medical tourism services to people from all over the world, then you need marketing support.
