Medical imaging vendors ramp up for radiology's big show: RSNA 2022
Well, we’re in the final stretch before RSNA 2022 begins on November 27. The last full work week before the Thanksgiving holiday was a busy one, as medical imaging vendors scrambled to finalize partnerships, put the finishing touches on new product launches, and get their marketing materials in order before the big show begins.
RSNA said it expects some 600 vendors to be exhibiting at #RSNA22 . And while traffic at RSNA 2021 was suppressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, expectations are that this year's meeting will be closer to the prepandemic norm.
Some of this week’s top highlights in the world of medical imaging include the launch of two new MRI scanners from 西门子医疗 as part of the company’s Shape 23 online event on November 15. The scanners included what the company called its most powerful 3-tesla MRI system yet, and a 7-tesla scanner that Siemens said would push the boundaries of what MRI can do in both research and clinical use.
Another major multimodality OEM – GE医疗 – also released big news during the week as the company said it was making an $80 million investment in a contrast manufacturing plant in Norway. The move was seen as a step toward bolstering the supply of iodinated contrast for x-ray and CT studies, which was disrupted this summer when COVID-19 lockdowns ordered by Chinese authorities shut down a manufacturing plant in Shanghai.?
Finally, Amazon Web Services (AWS) added new capabilities for medical imaging to its HealthLake cloud storage platform, an indication that healthcare remains a key market for the online giant.
Check out the headlines below for some of the top stories from this week in medical imaging.
