Description:
Under the direction of the Chair, the Program Director, the Director of Simulation, and the Associate/Assistant Program Director, organizes medical education activities, including Grand Rounds lectures, QI and research presentations, Basic Science Review, Oral Board Prep, and the Surgery Residency Preparedness Practicum. Under the direction of faculty mentors, develops, administers, coordinates and schedules all simulation activities, including resident procedural skills labs and courses, cadaver labs, FES and FLS courses. Compiles, organizes, and prepares examination materials for and schedules faculty and residents for Mock Oral Exams held bi-annually. Coordinates and assists in conducting portions of orientation for the incoming new surgical residents. Compiles and distributes the monthly conference schedule. Orders all catering needed for surgery conferences, meetings and trainings. Tracks resident and faculty attendance at all surgery conferences. Tracks faculty participation in educational activities to ensure core faculty engagement. Supports the Curriculum Committee in their development and implementation of curriculum for the general surgery residency per accreditation standards.?With the department Chair, schedules the Department of Surgery M4 Surgery elective block rotations, serving as a liaison between the students and faculty. Maintains course descriptions and collects confidential evaluations from preceptors. Works with the UICOMP residents from Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Med-Peds, and the Pediatric departments and schedules them into various Subspecialty Surgery electives. Distributes these elective schedules to residency coordinators. Notifies coordinators, residents, and contact persons or director of any elective schedule changes when they occur. Attends meetings as required by Academic Affairs. Uses?information gained from meetings to recommend improvements for the M4 electives. Performs all administrative tasks necessary to onboard M4 students?taking electives from UIC Rockford, UIC Chicago, and AT Still University, including arranging for their OSF IDs, scheduling aseptic training and mask fittings, and orientation as needed for electives.??Assists Program Director and Residency Coordinator in determining processes for recruitment of new residents and fellows. Enters all candidate information in Thalamus, coordinates invitation of candidates, schedules faculty and resident interviewers, and coordinates the interview process and department presentations. Will compile rubric of faculty interview results for the selection and ranking of candidates. Takes minutes during recap sessions after recruitment interviews in order to prepare for rank meetings and prepares materials for rank meetings.?Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
