By leveraging CREAL’s light field display technology, ZEISS will bring to market devices that allow for the digital examination of eye conditions as well as virtual simulation of classic ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses, and the like. 

Ultimately, the partnership should help bring century-old vision test procedures into the 21st century, finally enabling fast, cost-effective and above all user-friendly diagnostic procedures.

Many of today’s refraction tests are time-consuming, costly and can even seem intimidating. Manual and lens-based, they rely on outdated technology.

???♀? Smith+Nephew rolls out new TOTAL ANKLE patient-matched guides

Smith+Nephew has teamed up with South Carolina-based additive manufacturing specialist 3D Systems to design and manufacture the TOTAL ANKLE Patient-Matched Guides.

The guides are engineered using 3D Systems Corporation Systems’ VSP surgical planning workflows and feature fluoroscopic alignment cues to achieve a precise patient fit and accuracy in planning.

Also, the patient-matched guides are compatible with chamfer talar implants for its CADENCE Total Ankle System and SALTO TALARIS Total Ankle Prosthesis, said the company.

The authorisation comes after the US consumer electronics company announced an upcoming software update for its AirPods Pro that can turn it into a personalised hearing aid.

Apple’s Hearing Aid Feature (HAF) is a software-only mobile medical application, intended for use with compatible versions of the AirPods Pro, to serve as an OTC hearing aid.

The software is intended to amplify sounds for individuals aged 18 years and above, with perceived mild to moderate hearing impairment.

Once ingested, it absorbs water in the stomach, expanding into a three-dimensional matrix. The matrix occupies space, creating a sensation of fullness, which helps support weight loss.

The capsule works directly in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, through a mechanism of action that is purely mechanical and does not involve any chemical activity.
