Medical Cyber Madness
As a cyber security professional, when I read commentary and statements like the following arising from the Australian Senate estimates hearing around the recent Medicare Number breach, it makes me "WannaCry."
No wonder the healthcare industry is under cyber siege, when leadership have absolute disregard for cyber security and importantly patients rights to privacy.
Here we go!!
AMA warned a Senate inquiry into the breach against responding by imposing "unnecessary administrative barriers" to the detriment of patients.
"We don't want to end up with security so great nobody can use the system".
"The AMA wants to ensure any response from the government to safeguard information is proportional to the risk and does not increase the administrative burden on practitioners or practices,"
"Medicare numbers were just one feature among multiple layers of security guarding patient information and not useful in terms of obtaining access"
This is alarming and needs to be addressed.
