?Position Summary

The Medical Assistant (Certified/Credentialed) is responsible for assisting in the daily activities of the Positive Health Solutions clinic operation, performing a variety of clinical and clerical functions in a medical setting. Primary responsibilities include taking vital signs, putting patients in rooms, specimen collection, and assisting the physician or nurse with treatments and injections.


Duties & Responsibilities

Maintains paper-based and electronic medical charts: reviews and prepares charts to ensure completeness prior to patient exam, obtains missing documentation; documents medical visits, observations, and related activities in electronic health record

Direct patient care: Works under the direction of physician and nurse supervisor. Takes and records patient vital signs including blood pressure, height, weight, temperature, pulse and respirations. Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares the patient and room for the physician. Reviews medications and records presenting issues Assists the provider or nurse with therapeutics or diagnostic procedures Schedule patient appointments Assist the nurse with vaccinations by recording information in the vaccine and patient record. Records and administers flu vaccine following a provider's order. Phlebotomy

Performs in-direct patient care tasks such as the following : Per institutional policy, enters orders into the EHR, following doctors' orders; requisitions of laboratory tests and procedures, such as medicines, laboratory, and radiology Dispatches messages to other departments and makes appointments for patients requiring services in other departments or healthcare facilities, as requested by the medical staff Collects and prepares patients' specimens and returns them to the laboratory for analysis; also provides necessary follow-up work, such as checking on test results Collects and bags soiled linen in the examining room; sets-up procedure rooms Receives new supplies from supply source and manages inventories; checks supplies delivered against request for shortages and breakage; records errors or damages detected; places items in proper storage location in supply room; stocks examining rooms, insuring that appropriate medications and supplies are available at all times Obtains pre-authorizations and referrals

Performs clerical duties such as the following: Maintains patient files, medical records, treatment records, and laboratory results; completes patient charts as prescribed by physicians, nurse practitioners, or other healthcare providers Compiles periodic statistical reports from records and other data, such as clinic attendance, the number of patients seen by each doctor, and the discharge service analysis

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Possession of a?current/valid?medical assistant certification by an approved certifying board as defined by the employing institution
