Welcome to my weekly update on all things related to #MediaRevenue.
It has been another week of rather depressing news about job cuts across the news industry.
This crisis reinforces the urgency of helping news organizations build sustainable business models and the need for original journalism to be valued in a way that attracts support and revenue in the form of reader revenue, premium advertising, philanthropic investment, appropriate licensing fees from tech platforms and structural support from government.
This is what my partners and I are doing...not just talking about solutions, but building them, at scale. If you work in the news media industry, or in any entity designed to support it, and want to know more, contact me: [email protected]

New World Press Trends report showcases publishers’ positive outlook amid uncertainty: "Against a backdrop of geopolitical instability, rapidly changing relationships with technology platforms and strategic questions raised by generative AI, the new WAN-IFRA study finds news publishers in a remarkably optimistic mood about the year ahead and their prospects further down the line." - WAN-IFRA.

Most Top News Sites Block AI Bots. Right-Wing Media Welcomes Them: "As media companies haggle licensing deals with artificial intelligence powerhouses like OpenAI that are hungry for training data, they’re also throwing up a digital blockade. New data shows that over 88 percent of top-ranked news outlets in the US now block web crawlers used by artificial intelligence companies to collect training data for chatbots and other AI projects. One sector of the news business is a glaring outlier, though: Right-wing media lags far behind their liberal counterparts when it comes to bot-blocking." - Wired
