Unilever and Knorr encourage gamers to eat their greens
联合利华 has tripled its investment in gaming over the past three years, as part of which its Knorr subsidiary is encouraging Gen Z to eat vegetables with its #ModTheVeg campaign.
Noticing that vegetables were attributed fewer health points than meats in popular video games, Knorr has partnered with streamers to make vegetables more appealing to young audiences.
The company has promoted the initiative with a campaign film, and has petitioned gaming studios like Epic Games , Activision Blizzard and Mojang Studios to give vegetables an in-game value boost.
Gamers have also started building veggie ‘mods’ – free updates that alter the game’s code, allowing players to experience the game in a different way.
The #ModTheVeg campaign has achieved staggering results, clocking up 1.1bn earned reach, 95m impressions and 78m completed views of the livestreams.
Over 10,000 people played the various mods, with 26,000 hours of #ModTheVeg streamer content viewed in just 48 hours.
"The campaign created a powerful connection with younger consumers who are typically less familiar with Knorr as a brand,” explained Nicky Neerscholten , global head of digital and masterbrand at Unilever.
“The younger, gamer generation prepares food differently. They want fast, convenient and often all-in-one solutions that still deliver on taste and nutrition. Our mini-meals are the perfect match."
