Media Pitch Tips for Q4

With less than 100 days left in the year, this is the perfect time to think about your media relations strategy before the holiday rush begins. October is an ideal time to connect with journalists so that they'll have you in mind for holiday-related stories.

Below are a few tips, especially if you're reaching out to media for the first time:

• Create a strategy that connects your organization to an upcoming holiday. There's so much happening in Q4 - people are looking for time and money-saving tips, recipe ideas, holiday events, relationship advice and more! Don't forget about Small Business Saturday (November 25) and Giving Tuesday (November 28).
• Make sure you're media ready - have your website and social media up to date and make it easy for journalists to see your knowledge and expertise. If you're sharing news about a community or charity event, have details confirmed. Download your media-ready checklist here.
• Prepare a press release with your news - a press release is a formal way of sharing news with journalists in a format that's easy for them to follow. It gives them the essential details of what's happening, describes the important people involved, and explains what makes the story newsworthy. • Do some research to see what the tv show, radio show, podcast or digital outlet covered during the holiday season last year. What types of stories do they highlight? Would the news you share fit in?
