Media Opportunities and Spotlight for the Week
Media Career Development Network
Enhancing career development for journalists and media professionals
Biliyaminu Manne was only seeking to expand his knowledge of the relationship between liberty and journalism when the young journalist applied for the second cohort of the Journalism for Liberty Fellowship in 2023. Several months later, he not only became a pro-freedom reporter, but Manne confessed to our journalist, Shereefdeen Ahmad in this report that the fellowship improved his media career and attracted several subsequent fellowship opportunities for him.
Making sure you have information about transformative media opportunities like this is why we curate lists of media career development opportunities every week for journalists and media professionals to apply to. We have curated a few more this week for you to maximise and take advantage of before they close.

Continuing Manne's story, the Journalism for Liberty fellowship opened the door to other media fellowships like the African Liberty Writing Fellowship and the Prime Progress Religion for Change Fellowship for him. ”I got selected, and at the time, I didn’t know it would change the way I see the role of journalism and I didn’t know it would change my life. The fellowship improved my journalism knowledge and sharpened my communication skills, better equipping me to become an advocate of liberty,” he added.
The The Liberalist 's pro-freedom reporting fellowship was the subject of last week's edition of our Focus Series. We have also explored Dataphyte Nigeria 's impactful use of data in media products and HumAngle Media 's innovative storytelling approach in past focus series. This week's edition of the MCDN Focus Series will be on Prime Progress. Stay tuned to this space to not miss it.
