Irish media is ever changing, with budding journalists entering the game, some climbing their way up the editorial ladder and others jumping ship and hanging up their press passes.
This past week was no exception and the MediaHQ.com research team have been on the ball.
Alan Cantwell tweeted on Thursday night that we will be leaving TV3 after a total of 15 years as news anchor.
He led the stations recent election 2016 coverage and with politics on the brain he will take up the role as Director of Communications to the Department and special adviser to new Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor.
No replacement has been announced for him on the 12:30, 5:30 and 8pm daily news broadcasts, and will be presented by co-anchor Colette Fitzpatrick for the time being.
Producer Mick McCarthy has left Newstalk’s Off The Ball programme to take up a new post as Editor of sports news website Balls.ie, if he misses the airwaves he can always take part in the new balls.ie daily podcast.
Peter McPartlin has left his position as CEO of Today FM to take up the top job at Dublin media agency MediaCom.
The company wish to strengthen the brand offering in Ireland. With over 30 years of experience in Irish media Peter McPartlin is the man for the job. Having spent time at Aegis Media, UTV, The Irish Times, and Independent News and Media.
No replacement has yet been announced.
Researcher and rising star Joe Coffey is leaving Newstalk this Wednesday. Joe has made an impact on the sports scene in Irish journalism through the Team 33 podcast as well as creating compelling sporting montages like this. Joe also worked as a reporter for the Western People. He’s taking on a new role as Head of Communications at Macra Na Feirme.
The Innovation Show on RTE Radio 1’s online Extra channel is hosted by RTE’s newly-appointed Head of Innovation, Partnerships & Funding, Aidan McCullen. It aired first last week, on Saturday 7th May.
