Media Day Magic

There’s something magical about Media Day at the North Carolina State Fair. Last year, I got to experience my first ever media day as an intern. This year, I was lucky enough to come back to the fair as a social media coordinator. Now, I can confidently say that media day is my favorite part about working for the fair. It’s a sneak peek into the craziness that is the fair AND you get to try the new foods that vendors come up with.
P.S. this year there are over 70 new foods, and all of the ones I tried are delicious. Being a part of the behind-the-scenes is what makes my experience with the fair so special.
Even though this is my second year attending media day, it felt like a new experience. Last year I was still finding my footing as an intern. I didn’t know what to expect and was intimidated to see all the influencers and news outlets that attend. This year, I returned knowing how everything works. I knew what we needed for socials, and I even ran into a few familiar faces.
Alright, now for the reason you’re all here. The food.
The standout in my eyes was the Korean BBQ Kimchi Nachos from Bulkogi Korean BBQ.

Here are the media’s picks:
Best new savory food: Jerk Pork Belly Boa - Cool Runnings Jamaican.
Best new sweet food: the Granny Cone – Magdalena’s Chimney Cakes.
After trying all this new food, I cannot wait for the fair. This event kicked it off, and now I know where to stop for lunch, a snack or a sweet treat at nighttime.
Working for the fair is a tremendous privilege, and I am so thankful to be a part of such an important tradition for our state. Whether you’re a seasoned state fair goer, or are going for your first time this year, be prepared to leave with a smile on your face and a belly full of yummy food.
