Mechanising risk- Drones take on the riskiest jobs

With technology being integrated into the work-life across corporates, industries relying heavily on manual labour and risk-prone jobs are not staying too far behind.

More than a thousand workers die every year on the job due to some reason or the other. Job associated risks in industries like chemical factories, high-rise building cleaning, and civilian protection are very high. 

Role of Drones

Drones have recently come into play with companies realising that risk can be minimised for employees by deploying drone technology. Automation has been extensively integrated into the most dangerous jobs to minimise risks to human life.

From ascending, hundreds of storeys to squeezing through small tunnels- manual labour jobs come with a certain amount of risk that needs to be minimised for employee safety. Now, we have robots and artificial intelligence working to solve complex problems such as jobs risk and life safety of employees. 

The use of drones is a prime example of automation reducing risk. For instance, the America Cell Phone service provider AT&T has deployed a large fleet of drones to inspect its network towers that can be as high as a thousand metres. 

With high definition cameras, sensors, and speakers attached- these drones have become an efficient way to reduce costs, save time, and reduce or even eliminate job risks in certain areas. 

Even with safety gear, rescue teams, and support available- job risks have been reported to be high in some industries causing governments to lay down guidelines for control and monitoring. 

While an employee may take some time to prepare and climb high rises, has to be trained, and has enormous costs in terms of both time and money- a drone can be deployed quickly and do the same job with minimal risk in minutes.

Drones enhance productivity, reduce downtime, and also eliminate risk. We shall be able to control drones against winds and even use them effectively for industrial purposes such as painting and construction in the coming times. 

UAVs are extensively being used to provide healthcare in remote areas, in disaster management, firefighting, and even chemical and petroleum industries.

There is an excellent scope for drones to be integrated into various verticals in the coming times. With time becoming of the essence and employee security taking priority- the use of drones to perform risky jobs and dangerous tasks are rising rapidly.
