In this first episode, the Guest was Karan Kalra, He has completed his Master's degree in Mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta and working as a Mechanical engineer in a full-time Role.

Introduction:

Why Karan had selected Mechanical Engineering as Career?

His inspiration behind choosing mechanical engineering as a career was his father's Machine shop.

How important are the basics of mechanical engineering?

According to him, basics matter a lot if you want to get ahead faster in your career, you will be able to adopt core skills quicker if you had the basics stronger.

Are final grades important or is the earlier project experience that matters?

As per his experience, grades are not much important but having decent numbers will definitely be going to help, the most important thing is internships and projects you had participated in.

What are your suggestions for Early graduates or Freshers, on how they should plan their careers?

Internships between your graduation matter a lot. Also, start participating in projects early to make your resume stand out.

Before applying to any job customize your resume for each job profile and never forget to attach custom cover letters, these small steps will take some time but the results will be amazing.

What are the major skills that every Mechanical engineer should start learning from today and what are their future expectations/possibilities?

Start learning problem-solving skills today. Focus on the Automation part, not just on the mechanical concepts, and try to develop skills related to Mechatronics.

what do you love most about your career or Mechanical engineering profession?

He loved every aspect of it, that's why he was able to get so far in his career.
