MEC Maile Cautions Stakeholders on the Inadequate Progress @ Simunye Secondary School?
During a site inspection of the R123 million, Simunye Secondary School in Westonaria this morning, the MEC for Human Settlements and Infrastructure Development, Lebogang Maile urged Professional Service Providers (PSPs) and the Contractor to work together towards project completion.
MEC Maile drilled down to??the inadequate progress of this education project,??“The Department of Infrastructure Development, the PSP and contractors need to pull together to resolve technical challenges and ensure that no extra cent??is spent on this project. I will ensure that we act decisively - consequence management will be applied to all stakeholders. If we find that Officials of the Department are not delivering - we will act decisively. I can guarantee that we are not going to incur cost overruns attributed to complacency and poor performance.??I do not understand how a project that started in April 2022 has not progressed according to plan. This project is only at 28% completion - this is unacceptable and I think there is a big problem here!”
Simunye Secondary School is a Mega Smart School accommodating 1 200 learners equipped with 30 new classrooms, a science lab, multipurpose classrooms, multipurpose hall and outdoor sports facilities. This project is structured to encourage community participation.
Later today, MEC Maile will the Dan Tloome development project where he will officially open a community hall and hand over more than 370 houses to deserving beneficiaries in Randfontein.?
The MEC will be accompanied by the Executive Mayor of West Rand District Municipality, Councillor Boyce Maneli, Members of the Mayoral Committee and the CEO for the Gauteng Partnership Fund (GPF), Lindiwe Kwele.
