Businesses love math. It is math that gives the balance-sheet, the snapshot of the operations, the productivity and the revenue.
Do we really measure up to measurability? Sadly, no!
For, we fail to measure ideas, that may have potential. We fail to measure the value of research that may not instantly pay off but may compensate for the same many times over later.
Let's also see how do we measure. Our measurement presumes that the parameters we choose are enough to measure accurately. That's disrespecting the fact that all of us are unique professionals bringing different skills to the table. No of hours worked, no of units completed etc are primitive parameters for measurability in hyper-dynamic times where multiple industries are threatened by some innovation done in a small garage by two passionate individuals.
Our system of measurability is far too harsh on ideas and qualitative contributions. We don't measure the tone of communication or the sensitivity in conveying criticism. We don't even venture to measure the Happiness Quotient.
What then is the solution? No measurability? No. That is not what is being prescribed. However, the rigid approach to consider only stuff that ensures short-term revenue as significant should be done away with. Also, before rejecting an idea see how it can be relevant before jumping to the question- but how will we monetise it? how we will scale it?
Let's measure up to measurability in the right way and measure ideas and virtues, conduct and creativity, insight and foresight for it is no longer optional.

3 年Measureability is as common as "common sense" however seldom applied. If applied in tandem with creativity, productivity will leap way beyond our imagination.
