Measuring Our Impact on the World
As the largest healthcare company in the world, @Johnson & Johnson has the mission and the responsibility to apply our science and technology innovation, our resources and our global network to improve health outcomes for people all over the world. Our employees are guided by this mission every day. You may have heard me say before: we measure our success in years of life saved and quality of life improved. So I’m pleased to share our most recent Health for Humanity Report, which serves as the Company’s annual disclosure on environmental, social and governance performance and illustrates our progress towards fulfilling this mission. ?
In 2020, the stakes could not have been higher for the global health community as we faced profound upheaval and uncertainty due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges we faced, I am proud to say that Johnson & Johnson never stopped the relentless work of pursuing life-changing innovation. Most visible of these efforts was our work to develop a single-shot COVID-19 vaccine in a little over a year, with a commitment to facilitate equitable, worldwide access to everyone, everywhere.
We also made progress in other important areas: fighting infectious diseases such as Ebola, HIV, tuberculosis and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), but also other health challenges that have a significant impact on the world: cancer, mental health, myopia, smoking cessation, safe surgery, and many others. These are areas where we cannot get complacent and must not lose ground on progress already made.

Despite everything that we have accomplished, we know our work is not done. Our progress in 2020 has motivated us to set higher goals for the future, as outlined in our Health for Humanity 2025 Goals. These Goals are focused on pandemic and epidemic preparedness, continuing the fight to eradicate global health inequities, leveraging our scale and partnerships to enhance our collective impact, championing our people and protecting our planet.
One example of our ambitious goals in the area of pandemic preparedness is our Vaccination Monitoring Platform – a digital tool that integrates modern technology to improve patient tracing, data management and communication to implement impactful vaccination campaigns in low-resource settings. Drawing from our learnings from the Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014, Johnson & Johnson initiated the Platform as part of our collaboration in the EBODAC project (Ebola Vaccine Deployment, Acceptance and Compliance) to make administrating large scale, multi-dose regimen campaigns efficient and effective – in even the most complex environments. The first large-scale use of the Platform was in the Rwandan Ministry of Health’s UMURINZI campaign which aimed to protect the country’s most at-risk citizens from the threat of Ebola virus disease. ?
Our 2025 Health for Humanity goals are ambitions, but we must aim high in order to make a difference. I am proud that we continue to raise the bar for each other and our Company, pushing ourselves and the boundaries of science to improve lives worldwide. Our collective capability to transform #healthforhumanity continues to inspire me every day. Learn more about our 2025 Goals at https://www.jnj.com/caring
