Measuring the Impact of Intuitive Decisions

Measuring the Impact of Intuitive Decisions

Intuitive decisions often come from a place of deep insight, but they can sometimes feel intangible. Measuring the impact of these decisions validates your intuitive skills and provides valuable data on how intuition serves your business goals. Here’s how to assess the effectiveness of your intuition-driven choices.

1 | Track Key Intuitive Decisions and Outcomes

Start by keeping a decision log for situations where intuition played a major role. Document the decision, the factors that influenced your intuition, and the short- and long-term outcomes. Over time, patterns will emerge, showing when your intuition has been especially accurate.

Example: If you decided to invest in a new project based on intuition, track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to that project, such as engagement, revenue, or customer satisfaction. Analyzing these results provides objective evidence of the decision’s success.

Exercise: Create a simple spreadsheet or journal for logging intuitive decisions. Include columns for the decision, intuition cues, and outcome notes. Review this monthly to identify trends and refine your intuition.

2 | Set KPIs for Intuitive Decisions

Setting measurable goals or KPIs tied to intuitive decisions helps you quantify their effectiveness. These could include metrics like customer retention, team productivity, or revenue growth, depending on the nature of the decision.

Example: If your intuition guided you to change a product feature, use metrics like customer feedback, return rate, or feature adoption as indicators of the decision’s success. KPIs provide a clear view of how intuition impacts results.

Exercise: For your next intuition-based decision, set two to three KPIs. Evaluate the decision after three to six months to see if it met those goals, noting any adjustments or patterns that emerge.

3 | Reflect on Learning Points

Reflection is essential for refining your intuition. After each significant decision, assess what your intuition told you, how you acted on it, and the impact it had. This reflection builds confidence in your intuition and helps you learn from any missteps.

Example: If an intuition-driven decision didn’t yield the expected results, review what influenced that intuition. This reflection helps you identify potential biases or improvements for future decisions.

Story of Success

A CEO I worked with began tracking her intuition-based hiring decisions. She noticed that employees she intuitively felt aligned with her company’s values had a higher retention rate and contributed significantly to the culture. Over time, this validated her intuitive approach, strengthening her hiring confidence.

In closing, I simply would like to remind you that by tracking and reflecting on your intuitive decisions, you gain insights that support your growth as a leader, showing the strategic value of intuition.
