Meaningful work

Meaningful work

There is a misconception that meaningful work requires you to be in a of purpose-driven organisation, hold a title of some sort, or make a measurable impact. This is fundamentally untrue.

Counterintuitively, doing meaningful work isn’t about what you do, but rather an expression of your current state. Do you work 'because' you feel great, or do you work 'to' feel great? Are you acting from a place of fullness, or emptiness? There’s a world of difference. If you are serious about wellbeing and creating healthy company cultures, here are three areas to work on:

  • Learn to handle yourself during uncomfortable conversations. Avoiding them is like hiding and communicates immaturity to everyone around.
  • Let go of the need to be in charge. Step back and get out of the way. There is an intrinsic satisfaction in mentoring, coaching and seeing others do well.
  • Recognise that life - and work - are team sports. And the team won’t always consist of people you like (Simple as it sounds, it took me a while to realise this ??)

It was a pleasure hosting another #leadership intensive, facilitating insightful and intimate conversations in Athens, Greece.

Cheers.
