A Meaningful Way to Giveback: Support Old Skool Cafe's Matching Dollar-for-Dollar Campaign

San Francisco's Old Skool Cafe is an inspiring nonprofit desperately in need of our help. Less than 24 hours left to double your impact!

Hope you are all staying healthy and safe during this crazy time. I know a lot of us are looking for ways to support our community right now and I want to ask you to consider joining me in supporting Old Skool Cafe, a small but mighty nonprofit restaurant in Bay View/Hunter’s Point, San Francisco. They are very dear to my heart and desperately need our help right now.

On top of being a restaurant trying to survive this Shelter-in-Place order, Old Skool Cafe is a nonprofit program that supports at-risk youth by giving them a job, job training, mentorship, and wrap-around support services. They’re a lifeline for many of San Francisco’s most vulnerable youth. And they really, really need our support in order to survive COVID-19. 

Founded by former corrections officer, Teresa Goines, Old Skool Cafe is a jazz-themed supper club that serves the youth as an intensive real-world vocational training ground, employment incubator, supportive cohort, income generator, and connection point with a larger community that champions their success.         

Like many restaurants, Old Skool Cafe has had to shut down temporarily; if they go under, their employees (at-risk-youth, ages 16-22) lose not only their income, but the entire support system that Old Skool provides: mentoring, financial support, counseling, training, and very real unconditional love and support. 

Currently in shut down mode and cutting every cost possible, they are about $30,000 short for this month. Right now, the Stand Together Foundation is doubling all contributions up to $1,000 made to Old Skool Cafe. If you donate $100, it will automatically become $200. Matching ends today, so time is of the essence. Please click here to donate and have your contribution doubled. Every dollar given goes towards Old Skool Cafe’s programs to give youth a second chance and a better future.

Old Skool Cafe Impact: Old Skool Cafe has served over 600 youth since 2005. They have an impressive 11% recidivism rate compared to the National youth recidivism rate of 78%. All of the youth who complete their training program receive their California Food Handler’s Permit and 90% of graduates reengage with school full time or are employed after finishing the program.
