Meaning
A lot of men once they reach 40 start to ask themselves,
"What’s the point of it all?"
Sometimes they decide to buy a motorcycle, grow a goatee, pursue a new career or any variety of things that I’m not gonna address here.
I've had the opportunity to write two books.
While I never became the best seller I hoped I would be, the fact that I helped some people made it all worthwhile.
Recently, my wife congratulated me for my hard work ethic.
While it’s always nice to be appreciated sometimes it’s important to remember that I do what I do because I don’t want us to be homeless.
I'm not trying to be comical.
What could be more meaningful than sacrificing for my loved ones.
I also do what I do because I love my family and want the best for them.
I want my daughter to be able to go to grad school.
I want to have a home that my kids can always return to.
The bottom line is there’s a lot of meaning in what I do.
Is every workday easy? No.
But every workday is an opportunity to learn, to grow and to get better, and I find that very rewarding.
It also helps that I work with a bunch of nice people.
God willing, I will live and work until I'm at least 68 when my Social Security will be at a higher level and Barb and I will both have Medicare.
Could you find anything more meaningful?
I can't.
