Me, mental health and I
It was at one of my first Leadership gatherings in my early years in Pharma that led me to have a clear purpose and has been an ongoing motivation to remain working in a complex and fast-paced environment: Meeting and listening to a schizophrenia patient.
The whole room listened in awe as this patient shared the daily struggle of hearing multiple voices in his head, the pain of knowing that he was not fully himself and could not operate like most people. But, our medicine at that time was able to bring him peace and relief by silencing all of those voices.?
Hearing first hand this patient's experiences - and him being able to live a much better life - something we all want has continued to be an inspiration and I often come back to it.?Again I am reminded of this experience and how it extends to all of us on this #worldmentalhealthday.
That experience deeply influenced the way I interact with my colleagues on a daily basis, and while remaining business driven, I always try to check on them informally. I try to create an environment and contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture where they can show up at work and be their full self.?

As part of Grunenthal’s Diversity & Engagement Council - we know that when our People feel valued, respected, included and empowered to do their best, then they can bring great ideas to the table and develop their full potential. In turn, this means that we can be successful as a company and contribute to our communities. I’m really proud to be a part of the Council - we are doing more in the coming months as we embark on this journey.
As for my own mental health, I actively resort to art to relieve the pressures of work and life and often feel uplifted through different artistic experiences.?Whether that’s joining a live performance of Buto, a fascinating Japanese dance to visiting a museum, taking the time to sit and observe a Lee-Ufan or a Mark Rothko painting. This stimulates the mind, appeases your senses and creates deep emotions that take you elsewhere.?
I would encourage any person to explore different ways to support your own mental health - whether that’s getting out into nature, visiting a museum or having a cup of tea and connecting with a loved one.?By understanding our mental health, then we can support other, and each showing up as our best in work and life.

2 年Great words Florent. Diversity is an incredible chance. It means more creativity, more debate, and more quality in the end. As human we tend to stick to what we know so diversity requires that we go out of our comfort zones and that we proactively build inclusive strategies within our organizations. It's great to hear that yours is a first mover as there are still too many companies that have not yet realized what diversity can bring them.
