This is me, many years ago.

This is me, many years ago.

Yep! The blonde, striking a pose! My first ever business/promotional photo.

I’m pictured with my business partner Tanya and our very first employee Scott.??We’re actually still friends to this day.??

At the time of this photo, we all lived in a tiny mining town, our business was a furniture/manchester shop; we worked all week in our shop and our weekends were spent working on the family sheep and cattle station; we were third generation landowners.??The land and business ownership ran deep in our family.??The emotional and financial attachment to the town, people, land, and way of life was part of our DNA; to leave it all was almost an impossible thought.?

We decided to get a business coach after doing some research on how we could grow our business. We purchased some return plane tickets to Sydney and spent a whole day with our coach Joseph; he had such an impact I still remember his name all these years later.

Joseph spent the whole day with us, talking about what we wanted our business to achieve for us.??We were pretty proud of the penciled notes we had discussed prior to coming to Sydney around revenue, staff numbers and expansion plans.??Little did we know that Joseph wouldn’t stop at our initial answers just around our business. He kept asking all of us together and individually:

“Why is that important to you?”?

“What do you ultimately?really?want from your business?”

“What sort of life do you REALLY want to live?”

The questions just went on and on and on and on for hours.?

By the end of the day, I think I was pretty clear about what I wanted, and if I’m honest, it made me pretty scared.?

I’d made up my mind that I didn’t want to own this business and live in this town anymore. The reason was I didn’t want my kids to work on the land or underground in a mine.??My brother nearly died from a rock fall underground, so that was absolutely out of the question and seeing my parents suffer and growing up through droughts, fire and the unpredictability of the land; I decided that it wasn’t the life I wanted for me or for my boys.?

This was big, really big.?

What this meant was change, massive change. And I wasn’t sure if I was ready for such a massive step.?

We would have to sell our business, house, leave the family property, the generations of family, friends, financial security, and safety to make a new life for ourselves.???

As painful as all that was, within a few years we set out on our adventure to start a new life.?

We dared to dream big, be honest with our feelings and step into the unknown and the rewards (along with the challenges) have been worth it all.?

?

Sometimes it feels easier to not rock the boat; and especially if everything is ‘OK’ we think to ourselves; why make changes that could be scary and uncomfortable.??

Because, I believe ‘OK’ is generally not ‘Ok’.??If you have a business and life that is just ‘Ok’you’re probably?just?paying the bills with only a little left over, working more hours than you’d like, not seeing your family and friends enough, not taking many holidays and if you do maybe the laptop is your holiday companion.

You deserve an ideal business and generally that ‘ideal business’ is on the other side of fear. Fear of change, the unknown, uncertainty, loss of control, more work and the list goes on.?

Making the decision is the hardest part of change, once you do that the rest is just figuring out what to do.

I’ve grown a bookkeeping business from 1 bookkeeper to 12 with my sister-in-law; from white belt ($120,000) to black belt ($600,000-1 Million)?

If you’d like to have a chat about taking the step towards creating your ‘Ideal business’ I’d love to catch up. You can make an appointment with the link below.?
