Mdluli Safari Lodge Powers Up with Clean Energy, Thanks to Sosimple Energy

In partnership with Sosimple Energy , the Mdluli Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park is setting a new standard for eco-friendly tourism. With the recent installation of a solar-plus-storage system, lodge guests can now experience sustainable luxury powered by clean energy.

Project Highlights

During ESI Africa’s video coverage of the launch, Sosimple Energy’s Managing Director, Liana Braxton, shared exclusive insights into the project’s timeline and approach.

Project Duration: The installation took approximately 16 weeks to complete after receiving the go-ahead.

Key Focus: Braxton noted that every new project begins with a comprehensive understanding of the client’s operations. This includes:

• Identifying pain points regarding energy supply
• Assessing costs linked to these challenges
• Adapting solutions to the specific environment of each project

A Tailored Energy Solution

For the Mdluli Safari Lodge, Sosimple Energy determined that a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) would be the optimal choice for this setup.

Why this approach? This PPA model:

• Allows for immediate savings on electricity costs
• Mitigates the operational impacts of loadshedding, ensuring uninterrupted guest service

As Braxton explained, “This solution allows Mdluli Safari Lodge to enjoy day-one savings on energy costs while safeguarding operations against loadshedding.”
