Saving lives. It's in our blood.
Dorin Asweed, 31, from Neot Golan, was due to deliver her baby by caesarean section during the second week of January. On Thursday, December 29, she started feeling strong contractions at home.
“This is my third birth. The last time I gave birth within 20 minutes of arriving in the delivery room, so this time we left home immediately. During the journey, I felt the contractions intensifying, and I realized the delivery was imminent and was worried we wouldn’t make it in time to the delivery room. I asked my husband, Netanel, to call MDA to get us to the hospital quickly,” said Dorin.?
A Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) team arrived after a few minutes and quickly moved Dorin to the ambulance, with Netanel following in the car. Dorin told the team the baby was breech, and that she was due to have a caesarean section in another week.
“From the very first moments, we kept Dr. Dima Choyon, the manager of the delivery unit [at Baruch Padeh Medical Center, Poriya], informed, and he was on the line with us throughout the journey to the hospital,” said MDA Paramedic Tal Tabachnik.

“Since this was a breech birth that could be complex, our aim was to reach the delivery room as fast as possible. While en route, we realized the delivery was progressing, and we stopped on the side of the road to deliver the baby.”
?“I guided them on how to release the first arm and then the second, then the shoulders, and then how to carefully extract the head,” said Dr. Choyon. “Thankfully, the delivery was successful, and both mother and daughter are in good condition.”
“The paramedic indicated from the ambulance that everything was ok,” said Netanel. “I understood that Dorin had delivered the baby, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
“The truth is that we really didn’t want to have a caesarean section, and it seems the baby wanted a natural delivery too, so I’m pleased the delivery went well, without the need for a caesarean section.”?
