mCherry

mCherry

mCherry is a basic red fluorescent dye widely used in biotechnology as a tracer , including molecular labeling and positioning of cellular elements , etc.

Unlike GFP and other green fluorescent protein variants derived from Aequoera Victorian jellyfish , mCherry and most of other red fluorescent proteins are derived from Discosma .

Compared with other fluorescent dye ,the advantage of mCherry is that it can be labeled together with the most used green fluorescent protein(GFP), and mCherry also has excellent photo-stability compared with other monomer fluorescent proteins .

m of mCherry stands for monomer , indicating that the form of mCherry protein is monomer , which is very important in many experimental designs , such as when forming fusion proteins with target maker gene .

The peak absorption wavelength and peak emission wavelength are 587nm and 610nm .Tolerant to photo-bleaching ,fluorescence property is very stable.

mCherry has a relatively fast maturation rate(about 15 min),which is very important in some experiments requiring rapid response, such as the promoter activity reporting system .
