Today, let’s meet Xuanzi Han, Software Engineer!

What’s your 2-sentence autobiography?

Love data and love yoga.

What is your background prior to working for Monte Carlo?:

I’ve always been an engineer on the backend. Before Monte Carlo, I was doing streaming data processing at Uber. Before that, I was building a data warehouse at Google.

Why did you choose to work for Monte Carlo?:

The people and the problems we solve for our customers.

What do you appreciate most about working for Monte Carlo?:?

Similar to why I chose Monte Carlo. The people and the problems we need to solve. Everyone I work with is very good at what they do and also very humble. I get exposed to lots of challenging but fun projects to work on.??

What are you passionate about outside of working for Monte Carlo?:

I love yoga! I think it’s a great way to connect our body and mind, it’s like meditation in motion.

How did you get interested in your field of work?:

It just very naturally happened. I was in the CS major, and my first task as a full-time employee in the industry was to run map-reduce jobs in windows (of course, that’s not done). I have been working on data since then, and I really enjoy it. :)

If you could describe yourself with one word, what would it be and why?:

Probably healing. It’s because I hear people describing me using that word. And I do care about the people around me.

One of our company values is “beat the odds”. What does “beat the odds” mean to you?

Finding creative ways to tackle challenging problems.

If you could pause your life for just one moment, what moment would that be and why?

There are too many good memories with family, friends, and my dog, Data. It’s too hard to just pick one moment.

How do you recharge??

I like to do yoga in the morning to start my day. And I love walking with my dog in the evening. These two activities help me recharge every day.
