ORR Awards Outdoor Recreation Grants to 5 Rural US Communities

Five rural communities across the United States have been selected to receive outdoor recreation grants from the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR), aiming to boost local economies through environmental initiatives. The 2024 recipients—Beverly, Ohio; Claremont, New Hampshire; Giles County, Virginia; Haines, Alaska; and Poultney, Vermont—will leverage the funding to enhance their diverse outdoor recreation assets. These grants are part of the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities program, a collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and USDA Forest Service, among others. ORR President Jessica Wahl Turner highlighted the economic resilience and public health benefits these grants will foster. In Appalachia, Beverly and Giles County will focus on upgrading trail systems, while Claremont and Poultney in the north aim to improve outdoor accessibility.
