Castlehill Lodge Resort to Transform Old Coal Mine into New Holiday Park
Castlehill Lodge Resort is set to transform Scotland's last deep coal mine site, near Blairhall, into a vibrant holiday park, aiming to rejuvenate the local economy. The Castlehill pit, which supported the Longannet Power Station from 1965 until its closure in 1990, once employed nearly 800 workers, playing a vital role in the region’s industrial past. Approved by the West and Central planning committee, plans by Manchester-based Ben Jurin Architecture Ltd include constructing up to 100 holiday lodges, a retail unit, and a new link to a popular cycle path. The development will also feature a sustainable transport scheme, enhancing accessibility with a planned daily bus service to Culross and connections to nearby bus stops. Despite concerns raised about its financial viability, planning officials affirmed that such factors are outside the scope of planning considerations. The new resort is expected to inject around £9 million into the local economy, offering a promising boost to the community.
