Air Travel Challenges Drive Surge in Camping as Preferred Alternative, Reports KOA
A recent Kampgrounds of America, Inc. of America (KOA) report reveals a growing trend of leisure travelers and campers opting for camping instead of air travel, driven by issues with traditional transportation. Soaring costs associated with air travel (46%), hotel accommodations (42%), and food expenses (38%), along with COVID-19 concerns (34%), have pushed more people towards camping as a cost-effective and less stressful alternative. Consequently, recreational vehicle (RV) travel has gained favor, with 78% of campers recognizing its flexibility and 70% viewing it as more affordable than flying. The camping industry is set to witness a surge in popularity, as 56% of campers plan to embark on at least one trip in the next 30 days, and 44% intend to camp during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.
